New CCTV cameras have been trained on the city's riverside to stop drunken yobs from vandalising or untying boats and sending them drifting down the river.
The yacht station in Riverside has become the first place in Norwich to benefit from new CCTV cameras which are being rolled out in communities across the city.
Norwich City Council is spending nearly £140,000 to install new cameras to drive down anti-social behaviour and decided to start with the yacht station after a spate of problems.
Steve Morphew, city council leader, said: “There have been a number of problems reported at the yacht station which have tended to put people off from coming to Norwich by boat.
“Problems have included drunken people letting boats free, damaging boats and being generally anti-social. Tourism is a really important part of the Norwich economy and we want people to feel safe when they come here.
Half a million pounds has been spent to switch the city's CCTV control centre over to digital images, and there are plans to combat crime in neighbourhoods by placing cameras in trouble hot spots.
Families in Vauxhall Street, Mile Cross and Heartsease will be the next to get cameras, followed by Lakenham, Marlpit, West Earlham and in Colman Road, Mr Morphew revealed.
