Two players were said to have spoken of a furious bust-up in statements to cops. An official said: "Bob Woolmer said he had thrown a bookie out of his room.
Meanwhile, the faces of people who visited the twelfth floor of the hotel, were "easily identifiable" from CCTV footage, Shields was quoted by The Telegraph, as saying.
Shields said he had seen stills from the cameras monitoring the entrances to the 12th floor of the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica, and that the quality was good enough to recognise people.
While conceding that it had taken some time to get the footage to a facility that could convert it into better quality digital pictures, the police had "grabbed" images of every person who went up to the 12th floor during the 15-hour period between Woolmer going to his room and the discovery of his body the following morning.
"At a meeting yesterday I looked at a few still images myself. There were some people I met after the murder of Bob Woolmer whom I can easily identify. That can give you some idea of the quality," Shields said.
Dr. Ere Seshiah, an Indian living in Jamaica who works for the country's national security department, responded to speculation that his findings may have been flawed and that - despite police insistence that the evidence points towards murder - Woolmer may have died of natural causes.
Dr. Seshiah, 55, who has conducted more than a thousand post mortems and who moved to Jamaica 12 years ago, told NDTV that his report arrived at a "conclusive analysis".
"Questions are always there, but I'm confident of my ability. I worked on this post mortem for two hours. I did a complete post mortem and arrived at a cause of death. Then, I prepared my report and handed it over to the top police command," he said.
