NEW YORK (AP) _ Graffiti-related arrests have nearly doubled under a year-old program which uses digital cameras to help police track patterns in vandalism around the city, according to a published report.

As of Nov. 6, there had been 2,230 graffiti arrests in 2005, a 93 percent jump from the same period last year, the Daily News reported in Monday editions. More than half of the offenders were under 18.

"The doubling indicates how serious we take it," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said. "The handwriting's on the wall. Vandals will be identified and arrested."
