In the midst of unexplained, ghostly antics, they want to know whether they're experiencing a haunting. But what if an unhaunted person wants to encounter a ghost on purpose?

A: Oh, yeah. I stayed at a Red Roof Inn in Arkansas, and after going to the room and then back to the front to ask about restaurants, I told the lady at the desk that there used to be an orphanage there, that guests were waking up at night and hearing children groaning. A section of the orphanage had burned. And she said, "Yes, a whole half of the town burned."

It's often a place where someone has been murdered or someone died. A lot of older people stay in their homes until they pass away. If they weren't going to leave in life, they're not going to leave in death. They're not going anywhere unless they want to. A lot of times, if you're in a house where someone died, and you're a very peaceful person and don't do a lot of renovation, they don't care.

A: You'd be surprised. A lot of ghosts do things while you're at work, some while you're sleeping. One woman told me that whenever she and her husband were in the kitchen eating, they would hear a chair rolling on the floor upstairs in the computer room.

I tell people to get a digital camera. Often you see something go by out of the corner of your eye, and that's when you start snapping pictures. Eventually, you'll catch it. You can also use video cameras. You let the camera roll and do surveillance.

A: A lot of ghosts open doors. One person had a set of double doors between rooms that was constantly being opened and closed. She got a hook to latch the door, but then she would hear the hook being flipped all the time. Ghosts open cabinets. They flush toilets. They can turn water on. They do moan, and they can actually talk to you.

A: If you have a ghost in your house and it's really bugging you, you can take your house back. You talk to them. You demand they go to one room of the house or to the attic. The woman with the desk chair told the ghost to go to the basement. She put the chair down there and said, "Have fun!" She had an old TV and left it on for him. It worked.
